Bellator Fighting Championships announced yesterday that they have entered into a parntnership with Redline Media Group that will bring their four marquee events for 2010 to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL. Bellator officials chose South Florida as their home base due mainly to the tremendous fan turnout at their 2009 events, saying specifically:
“We are thrilled to be returning to the Seminole Hard Rock during our second and third seasons,” said Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “As we discovered during our inaugural season, the Hard Rock Live is one of the finest, most state-of-the-art venues for MMA and the fan response was spectacular. We’re looking forward to bringing four world-class MMA events to South Florida and some of the country’s most devoted and die-hard MMA fans.”
The four events to be held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino are as follows:
- Bellator XIII (Season 2 Premiere), April 8, 2010
- Bellator XXII, (Season 2 Final Round Event), June 10, 2010
- Bellator XXV (Season 3 Premiere), Aug. 12, 2010
- Bellator XXXVI (Season 3 Finale), Oct. 28, 2010
Each of these events will air live on FOX Sports Net, who is one of three broadcast partners that Bellator has contracted. NBC will run a late night 30-minute highlight show on the Saturday following each event, and Telemundo will also air a one-hour version of the highlight show each successive Saturday as a Spanish language alternative.
This is spectacular news for fight fans as it only means more competition for Strikeforce and UFC, which should deliver deeper talent pools, more frequent events and only help push the entire sport to the next level. Bellator has also made recent headlines with their signing blitz that includes rising stars Mike Ricci, Ferrid Kheder, and the undefeated Patricio Pitbull. Get ready for a great year in MMA if these trends continue!
