It is being widely reported that ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler has been removed from the upcoming Strikeforce: Evolution event this weekend and a replacement bout has yet to be announced. The main card was originally scheduled for five fights and it would not be surprising to see the fifth contest dropped altogether given the short notice.
As for the reason Lawler was scratched, Sherdog.com is reporting that Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker admitted to being unable to book a fighter worthy of stepping into the octagon against him. Coker cited a rash of injuries and sickness across the middleweight division, and it appears that no MMA organization is safe from the ‘cancellation virus’ that seems to be spreading rapidly these days.
On the bright side, Lawler is expected to be rescheduled for a fight at Strikeforce: Miami in January, which is shaping up to be a very impressive card featuring Cris Cyborg, Bobby Lashley, Nick Diaz, and the MMA debut of former NFL star Herschel Walker.
