Andrei Arlovski Officially Under Contract With Strikeforce

Andrei Arlovski Officially Under Contract With Strikeforce

International superstar Andrei ‘The Pitbull’ Arlovski (15-7-0) announced via his website tonight that he has signed a multi-fight, 16-month deal with Strikeforce which will launch into action on May 15, 2010 where the former UFC heavyweight champion will test his chin against the 300lb. American Top Team product Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva (13-2-0).

Arlovski is currently reeling from consecutive KO losses to top Strikeforce heavyweights Brett ‘The Grim’ Rogers (10-1-0), and Fedor ‘The Last Emperor’ Emelianenko (32-1-0), and has turned to the talents of Greg Jackson to prepare him for the upcoming bout with Silva. Arlovski will be training part-time at the flagship Jackson’s Submission Fighting facility in Albuquerque, NM and already looks to be in fight shape having appeared in a four round charity boxing match this past weekend in Miami Beach, FL.

Antonio Silva is also struggling as of late having recently gone the distance with top ranked heavyweight Fabricio Werdum (13-4-1) only to lose by unanimous decision at November’s Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers event. The 6′4″ Muay Thai striker has manged to knockout nine of his thirteen opponents and with Arlovski revealing a glass jaw of late there is a real chance that the Brazilian could catapult his career on fight night.

Yes, it’s good to see Arlovski still fighting in MMA. He’s a pretty good fighter, and despite his losses to Fedor and Rogers, I still think he could beat Lesnar if he ever got a chance to be in the UFC again– or at least be a really good fight to watch.
